Place: Tasmania, Australia

Planned date: November 16th 2022

Participant: Piotr Babis

Objective: Complete 7 main Tasmanian multi day tracks in 7 days

Why?: Challenge myself while having fun in Tasmanian Wilderness, empower the community, promote Tasmania as a trail running destination & raise funds for Westpac Rescue Helicopters.

UPDATE:

im)possible7 project has came to an end. 440km 21 000m of vert on equally beautiful and challenging trails. 9 days 15h to cover 9 of Tasmania’s multiday walks & 1 day trip: Federation Peak, South Coast Track, Frenchmans Cap, 3 Capes, Freycinet Mt Graham Circuit, Wall of Jerusalem ( Mt Jerusalem return), Overland Track, Lake Rhona, Mt Anne (Mt. Eliza only) Western Arthurs (Lake Oberon return). Despite cancelled flight from Melaleuca and sustaining some weird knee injury at the end of day one, that wouldn’t allow be to fully extend my knee and forced me to walk more often than I planned to. What a personal test of patience and resilience. To experience so much natural beauty of this place and connect with so many people in such a short period of time is staggering and overwhelming. Thank you to all my crew, support and donations.

‘A place of enormously diverse inland and coastal wilderness areas that range from the wildest of ocean dunes and satellite islets to near impenetrable rainforests, rugged mountain ranges, soaring cliffs and severely fragile alpine moorlands’

Ever since I came to Tasmania, I fell in love in this beautiful island.

I spend 3 years exploring its trails and mountain tops. I completed here several projects, for example run up Cradle Mountain from the sea level, crossed Overland track out and back in winter, run 10 times up and down Cradle Mountain in winter conditions (Everesting Challenge) or set Fastest Know Time on 470km long Tasmanian Trail.

Despite undertaking all those challenges, I am still curious about my personal limits and willing to discover further this beautiful place.

(Im) possible 7 could be one of the biggest running project in Australia and certainly in Tasmania.

I will consist of 7 main (most renown/popular/beautiful/unique/challenging) multiday tracks in Tasmania.

The total accumulated distance is 380 km with nearly 20000 m of elevation gain. Tasmanian trails are well known for its difficulty. Most of them are exposed to a harsh weather conditions. Roots, sharp rocks and deep mud is common. Parks & Wildlife recommend about 30 days altogether for those trails to be completed

Logistics will be another challenging aspect, since the trails are located in different parts of the Island. The project will require one flight and about 1600 km of driving.

1. Southcoast Track 85km, 4000m +/-

A 6-8 day hike that starts with a small plane flight from Hobart to Melaleuca to access the trail that provides a sneak preview of the landscape and rugged coastlines and river inlets from above prior to commencing.

2. Federation Peak 43km 2500m +-

A remote peak in Tasmania’s Eastern Arthur Range. Declared by Sir Edmund Hillary as ‘Australia’s only real mountain’ this track in know from its exposed ridge and is notorious for muddy approach.

3,Western Arthurs Traverse 45km 3500+/-

The range contains 22 peaks and 20 hanging lakes.

This lollipop loop is ranked by many experienced bush walkers as Tasmania’s greatest walk. It is undoubtedly the most spectacular, but it is also one of the most dangerous walks in Tasmania.

4, Frenchmans Cap 45km 2800m +/-

The hardest of Tasmania’s Hut-based bush walks. Out and back tracks climbs to the summit of a prominent and outstanding 1446 meter peak in Franking- Gordon Wild Rivers National Park

5. Overland Track 80km 2800m +/-

Arguably Australia’s premier bushwalk, the internationally renowned Track stretches from Ronny Creek to Lake St Clair.

6,Three Capes Track 52km 2300m +/-

A journey in Tasman National Park in south east of Tasmania leads through myriad of natural landscapes and exhilarating cliff top outlooks on Cape Pillar, Cape Hauy and stunning views to Cape Raoul.

7, Freycinet Peninsula Loop 29km 1200m +-

Internationally renowned as one of the most breath taking coastal peninsulas in Australia, the Freycinet National Park showcases beautiful crystal waters, stunning granite peaks and thriving wildlife.

It will be my ultimate project and a tribute to this amazing island I have been calling home.

The goal would be to cross the tracks in fastest time possible, ideally in 7 days if weather allows.

I will be accompanied by my trail running friends and major figures in Tasmanian trail running community.

While I am looking to challenge myself in a new way, I am hoping to empower the Tasmanian community to get outside and explore our amazing backyard. I also aim to raise funds for Westpac Rescue Helicopters, a very important organization, that keeps us safe, while being outdoors.
